Pause, take a deep breath in and breathe out. It's a very different sensation we feel when we breathe intentionally. Our breath is clever it continues without us having to focus on it, but when we do it brings a much deeper sensation and meaning to the action.
I am using the breath as an example as this is something that we can all experience easily, when we pause and bring ourselves to the present moment. It shows how we can empower our actions using awareness and intention. This may seem obvious, but when you think about all the actions and thoughts we partake in on a daily basis many of them are 'auto-pilot' routines. Our brains are marvellous things that can take our thoughts to all kinds of places without us really paying attention!
What is intention and how can it help me?
Your goal, purpose or aim is your intention. By stepping into this mindset it helps to guide and focus us into a way of living and being the way we want to be.
I tend to work with a set of intentions for around 6 weeks. I repeat them to myself every morning, I use them to journal, gradually embedding them into my life with focus and awareness.
For example my current intentions are:
I am healthy
I am focused
I look after me
I notice
So each morning I remind myself that I am healthy and that my actions and thoughts can help to support this. Whether it be a workout or a meditation I choose to nourish myself in a good way.
I am focused, helps me to think clearly about the things I can do to help achieve my goals. Actions that will encourage forward motion - journalling ideas, listening to podcasts or reading books that inspire me.
I look after me, brings my attention to where my energy is flowing, is it balanced? Are some things draining my energy and if so can I choose to respond to situations differently?
I notice, is an important one for me as my intention is to get in touch with my intuition. To listen to my gut feeling and to pay attention to all those subtle signs that body is giving me.
Where Do I Start?
Creating intentions can sometimes seem overwhelming! Where do I even begin to unlock what I want to focus on!
When I work with clients we establish intentions through our informal consultation. Areas of your life that are sparking joy or are obviously draining your energy. We work together to create a pathway of clear intention.
If you are struggling to find clarity oracle cards are great way to narrow your attention and give you a starting point. Once the awareness is engaged it will all fall into place!
